Approximating the size of a landmark

ICompass can help you to gauge the size of a landmark this could be important if you are lost or need to know how wide a mountain is which can be key to deciding whether an excursion is possible with your current resources, food and water supply. To do this perform the following:

Step 1
You need to be able to guess how far you are from the landmark. One way of doing this is to look for items between you and the landmark that are familiar to you like a tent, a type of tree or a stream. If you can see anything like that try to recall how big it was in relation to your body or your walking stride and then imagine how many of those objects are between you and the landmark making sure to account for your viewing perspective. The unit of measurement can be anything metres, kilometres, miles, footsteps, tents, trees etc.
Step 2
When you feel you have a distance in mind select the Set Distance From Landmark menu item from the menu and enter the value you have in mind within the input field and select CONFIRM.

Step 3
Hold the smart device flat and try to face the landmark. Turn the compass face such that the marking N or North or 0 is pointing to the left point of the landmark.
Step 4
Select the Set Start Point Of Landmark menu item from the menu, the orientation value is reported within the compass details area.

Step 5
Now without moving your body drastically or changing your posture repeat the process of moving the compass face but this time make sure the same marking (N or North or 0) is pointing to the right side of the landmark.

end of the landmark as described in step 5.
Step 6
Select the Set End Point Of Landmark menu item from the menu, The orientation value is reported within the compass details area with the width; the unit of measurement is the same unit of measurement that you used to guess the distance of the landmark from yourself.
